Bengaluru: Though the Congress-JD(S) alliance claims to take decisions that reflect its unity, it has failed to do so in the candidature for the Rajarajeshwarinagar Assembly bypolls. Efforts of the coalition leaders to put up a united fight in the constituency has failed as Congress nominee Muniratna has refused to support the JD(S) nominee G.H. Ramachandra. The two candidates will be pitted against each other in the election to be held on Monday.
Meanwhile, the District Election Officer has enforced prohibitory orders under section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code. The prohibitory orders will be in place 48 hours before the polls and 24 hours after it. The Police Commissioner has enforced prohibition of sale, consumption, procurement and storage of wine, arrack and other intoxicants from 5 pm on May 26 to midnight of May 28, and 6 am to midnight on May 31. The DEO has also ordered government and aided schools, central and state government offices and cooperatives in the constituency to declare a holiday.
The areas that would come under the prohibition order are Yeshwanthpur, RMC Yard, Rajagopalanagar, Peenya, Nandini Layout, Mahalakshmi Layout, Jalahalli, Gangammana Gudi, Rajarajeshwarinagar, Kamakshipalya, Jnanabharathi, Byatarayanapura, Annapoorneshwarinagar and Girinagar police station limits.
