Coastal Tourism Circuit has not yet reached Karavali!

Mangaluru: It is going to be year since the approval was provided for the development of Tannirbavi, Sasihitlu beaches in the city under the central government’s ‘Swadesh Darshan Coasta Tourism Circuit’, but the grant has not yet been released. Because of this, the plan to develop beach tourism lies in a ditch.

The union government created the ‘Swadesh Darshan Coasta Tourism Circuit’ in the year 2016-16 with the aim to re-encourage tourism along the coast.

Under this plan, the state tourism department created a proposal to develop Tannirbavi and Sasihitlu beachz in Dakshina Kaanada district at the cost of Rs 23,35,79,000 and submitted it to the union government.

Tannirbavi: Rs 20.52 crore plan

Under the plan, approval was provided for the development of tourism at Tannirbavi beach at the cost of Rs 20.52 crore through various works and installation of facilities.

Of the total amount, Rs 4.23 crore would be spent for the creation of a Tourist Facilitation Centre and Life guard training school, 49 benches would be created at the cost of Ra 11.09 lakh, 4 life guard towers at the cost of Rs 19.45 lakh, solid waste management unit at the cost of Rs 4.01 lakh, public service facilities at the cost of Rs 31.13 crore, installation of solar street lamps at the cost of Rs 20 lakh, installation of CCTV cameras at the cost of Rs 40 lakh, beach cleaning goods at the cost of Rs 75 lakh, water sports equipment at the cost of Rs 1 crore, walkie-talkie, hand mic, control system and beach control unit at the cost of Rs 20 lakh, beach marshal vehicle at the cost of Rs 10 lakh, life buoy, safety tube and safety bed at the cost of Rs 15 lakh, cubical shower block at the cost of Ra 2 lakh and the creation of floating jetties near Kuloor bridge, Sultan Battery, Bangrakuloor at the cost of Rs 4.80 crore.

Approval had been given for various works and facilities at Sasihitlu under ‘Swadesh Darshan Coasta Tourism Circuit’ at the cost of Rs 4,83,55,000. Of the total amount, 20 benches will be installed at the cost of Rs 5.55 lakh, 2 life guard towers at the cost of Rs 9.72 lakh, solid waste management unit at the cost of Rs 4.01 lakh, cubical shower block at the cost of Rs 2 lakh installation of CCTV cameras at the cost of Rs 40 lakh, beach cleaning goods at the cost of Rs 75 lakh, walkie-talkie, hand mic, control system and beach control unit at the cost of Rs 20 lakh, life buoy, safety tube and safety bed at the cost of Rs 15 lakh, surfing equipment at the cost of Rs 30 lakh and the creation of floating jetties at the cost of Rs 1.60 crore.

Development of river banks

The Swadesh Darshan plan includes the development of river banks at Tannirbavi and Sasihitlu at the cost of Rs 5 crore and Rs 51.14 crore respectively. This includes landscaping, pathway, pedestrian benches, water purification unit and temporary restaurant.

Wait for the release of the grant

“Rs 25.52 crore has been approved for the development of two beaches in Mangaluru through the ‘Swadesh Darshan Coasta Tourism Circuit’ plan. The work will be started as soon as the amount is released,” informs Udaya Kumar, District Tourism Assistant Director
