Bengaluru: Karnataka is experiencing a sharp dip in temperatures, with districts like Bidar and Vijayapura likely to record a minimum temperature drop of 5°C below normal in the next 24 hours, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

Dharwad, Gadag, and four other districts in North Karnataka could also witness temperature drops of up to 4°C, increasing the cold wave’s impact in the region.

On Thursday, Bidar recorded the state’s lowest minimum temperature of 10°C. Meteorologists predict that it could dip further to 5°C. Similarly, Vijayapura’s current minimum temperature of 11.4°C might drop to 6.4°C. Dharwad, Gadag, Kalaburagi, Yadgir, Raichur, and Chikkaballapur districts are also bracing for a temperature decrease of 2-4°C.

The cold wave is expected to intensify across northern parts of Karnataka, while the rest of the state may not see significant changes in minimum temperatures. However, temperatures could gradually rise over the next six days, IMD forecasts indicate.

Foggy Mornings in Several Districts

Dense fog is expected to envelop parts of Vijayapura, Bidar, Kolar, Chikkaballapur, Bengaluru Rural, Bengaluru, Ramanagara, Tumakuru, and Chamarajanagar on Friday. Bengaluru, in particular, is likely to see clear weather throughout the day, with some areas experiencing heavy fog in the morning. The city is expected to record a maximum temperature of 28°C and a minimum of 15°C.

Cold Winds Sweep Bengaluru

Bengaluru and the southern interior regions have been battling cold winds for the past two days due to easterly winds traveling at high speeds from the Bay of Bengal towards the west. This sudden weather anomaly, caused by a disturbance in the Bay of Bengal, has intensified the chilly winds in the city and surrounding areas. However, the wind speeds are expected to reduce in the coming days, said C.S. Patil, Director of the IMD Bengaluru Division.
