Sullia: A rejected lover stabbed a college girl to death and proceeded to kill himself before being nabbed by Sullia police.
The victim has been identified as Akshata.K from Santhinagara, Kasaragod, studying at NMC first Degree College in Sullia.
The accused is Chandrashekar Nayak’s son Karthik, from Nellu Kemraje, a BSc student from the same college.
The barbaric act took place in the evening near Chennakeshava temple in front of Sri Ram mobile shop. Akshata had decided to go back home earlier that day and was walking towards the bus stop with her friends.
Kartik is believed to have arrived earlier, parked his bike near the temple and waited for her arrival. Chatting with her, he accompanied her from the temple and spontaneously stabbed her without mercy when they neared the mobile shop. Sustaining life threatening injuries she fell to the ground unconscious and was soon transferred to KVG hospital. She was later being transferred to Mangalore for further treatment when she expired along the way at Chalsuru.
One sided love is considered to be the reason behind this act. It is observed that Akshata had rejected Karthik’s proposal several times before and that he was harassing her to accept his proposal. She had threatened to inform her family if he continued to pursue her. He went into depression due to her warning and his failure to woo her and then must have decided to kill her and himself as an ultimate act of love.
Ahter stabbing Akshata, Karthik slit his right wrist and started walking towards the main road. The localities caught him and handed over to the police. His attempt for suicide is presumed to be an excuse to escape from murder.
