Bengaluru: A PU college lecturer of Basaveshwara Pre-University College in Rajajinagar was terminated from service after a video of him physically assaulting a student in the classroom went viral on Friday.
The college management conducted an inquiry into the incident which is said to have occurred on Monday and found the lecturer, Harish guilty of corporal punishment.
As per reports, Harish lost his cool at the student as he was being not paying attention in the class and was disturbing others. As a form of punishment, Harish tried to hit the student with a stick. However, the student held to the stick in self-defense and in the melee caused it to break and hurt Harish’s hand. Angered by this, Harish assaulted the student in front of the whole class.
The entire incident was recorded by other students and uploaded on social media platforms.
College principal C N Jyothi informed that Harish had joined the institute two months ago.
Reacting to the incident, state Primary and Secondary Education Minister S Suresh Kumar in a Facebook post said, “The college management has decided to terminate the services of the ‘villain’ lecturer… a police complaint is also filed.”
