Mangaluru: Minister Dinesh Gundurao on Sunday, June 11 visited Dakshina Kannada for the first time after being appointed as the Dakshina Kannada District in-charge minister.

Addressing presspersons during his visit he said that he’s very happy to be taking up this responsibility.

“I have had a longstanding association with this district, starting from my days in the Youth Congress. I am committed to ensuring their welfare. A person from this district itself should have been appointed as the district in-charge minister, however, as UT Khader has been appointed as the Speaker of the Assembly, this role has been bestowed upon me,” he added.

“Our primary focus will be maintaining law and order in the district. I expect all officers to carry out their duties without hesitation. It is crucial for the police department and district administration to work impartially,” said Gundurao.

Gundurao emphasized that the district’s development requires the collective effort of all stakeholders. While development work is typically challenging during the rainy season, the district administration should be well-prepared to tackle any obstacles. The government is fully committed to providing all necessary support for this purpose. Gundurao announced his plans to visit the district next week and conduct a progress review meeting involving all elected representatives and officials.

Addressing the issue of private bus dominance in DK district, Gundurao acknowledged concerns about implementing the announced project of free travel for women. He clarified that such initiatives are limited to government buses and cannot be extended to the private sector.
