Commonwealth medallist Gururaj Poojary gets Rs 25 lakh cash prize

Bengaluru: Weightlifter from Kundapur, Gururaj Poojary, who had made the nation and and Karnataka proud by winning silver medal in Gold Coast Commonwealth Games, finally got his cash prize of Rs 25 lakh promised by the state government.
This prize had been declared soon after Poojary made the country proud in world-level performance. When addressed previously, the then minister for sports and youth empowerment, Pramod Madhwaraj, had clarified that the award could not be disbursed to Poojary because of the election code of conduct in force.
Gururaj, personally met Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy, on Wednesday, and disclosed to him the situation. Soon, the Chief Minister gave over a check for Rs 25 lakh to him. Gururaj intends to utilize this money for the preparations for the next Olympics.
