Commuters suffer as Bus shelters removed, roadwork delayed in Bajpe

Bajpe: It has been 50 days since two bus shelters in Bajpe market were removed to facilitate road expansion work. However, the road widening and concrete work has not yet begun, leaving passengers stranded under the scorching sun without shelter.

The Bajpe Town Panchayat removed the bus shelters on October 31, located near Adyapady, Muchur, and the stops for buses heading toward Mangaluru and Suratkal. This was done following a request from the Public Works Department (PWD) on September 11, citing the need for road expansion and concreting work.

The Panchayat acted promptly, notifying the PWD of the removal on November 4. However, despite the urgency displayed, the roadwork remains stalled, adding to the plight of passengers.

Passengers Seek Shade in Buses
Without proper shelters, passengers are forced to stand under trees or shop awnings to escape the heat. Some buses, which halt for extended periods, have become shelters. While they offer partial relief, the intense heat inside remains a challenge. Commuters rushing from one spot to catch buses has also increased the risk of accidents.

Questions Over Delay

The urgency displayed by PWD in demanding the removal of bus shelters for road widening gave the impression that work would commence immediately. However, 50 days have passed, and there is no sign of the project starting.
