Compensation of Rs 534 crore distributed to Seabird displaced families

Karwar: Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Saturday said that the Center had discharged a fund of Rs 534 crore to the uprooted families of the Seabird venture and the rest of the Rs 53 crore would be kept with the district administration by February 27.

The Union Minister was addressing the gathering after distributing the compensation amount to the dislodged groups of the Seabird venture at Rangamandira here. “Before the Narendra Modi-drove NDA government went to the power at the Center, just Rs 78 crore of the aggregate remuneration measure of Rs 587 crore was stored in the region treasury. Since 2014, the Union government has discharged Rs 459 crore towards remuneration payable to the dislodged families,” she said.

Nirmala Seetharaman handed over compensation amount to 96 displaced families during the programme.  Union Minister Anantkumar Hegde was present at the event.
