Compol orders strengthening of beat system to enhance police-citizen connection

The Mangalore Police Commissionerate is prioritizing the Beat system in an effort to strengthen the connection between the police and citizens.

Under the previous system, each police station was responsible for a specific area and had constant contact with the community through Beat meetings held in person or on WhatsApp groups.

To improve the system, the new Commissioner of Police, Kuldeep Kumar R Jain has ordered that at least three meetings be held in every Beat area each month, with police officers attending and supervising.

Meetings are held in various locations such as schools, anganwadis, and playgrounds to listen to citizens’ grievances and provide necessary information to the police.

Although the new Beat system has been implemented to strengthen police-citizen connections, some stations face personnel shortages that pose a challenge. However, the Commissioner of Police has taken steps to ensure the system’s effectiveness, including personal monitoring and frequent visits to Beat meetings by senior officers to maintain contact with the public.

There are a total of 593 Beat areas across the Mangalore Police Commissionerate, including 42 under Konaje station, 47 under Ullal, 64 under Kankanady, 41 under Panambur, 44 under Kavur, 42 under Bajpe, 45 under Suratkal, 16 under Mulki, 38 under Moodbidire, 63 under Mangalore North Thana, 64 under Dakshin stations, and 44 under Barke station.
