Mangaluru: According priority to the safety of women during the New Year celebrations, City Police Commissioner Dr P S Harsha said that Abbakka Pade women police squad will patrol across the city to ensure no one misbehaves with women.

Adequate safety measures must be taken by organisers at events where women are expected in large numbers. CCTV cameras must be installed and the footage must be available to police at any given time, Dr Harsha directed.

Strict action will be taken against miscreants who forcefully try to wish women, irritate or trouble them or touch them inappropriately. Criminal cases will be filed against miscreants trying to get into ladies hostels on the pretext wishing them, he cautioned.

The commissioner warned of action against party organisers if they do so without availing necessary permissions.

“The organisers will have to abide by the rules prescribed by the concerned departments. Permission from the Excise department is a must, wherever liquor is served. The organisers should make sure that precautionary measures such as fire safety, fire fighting equipment and ambulances are in place at the venue,” the commissioner explained.

Organisers have been directed to wind up the celebrations by 12.05 am with an additional 15 minutes for people to disperse, he said.

On the issue of drunken driving, the top cop said action will be taken against motorists engaging in stunts and driving in an inebriated condition.
