Mangaluru: The city Police Commissioner Sandeep Patil thanked the people of Mangaluru for cooperating with the police and other officials to ensure smooth conduct of the elections through a tweet on Friday May 24.
“Thank You to the people of Mlore for cooperating with Mlore Police in ensuring peaceful elections..right from campaign period to poll day to counting day, no untoward incident took place..Looking forward to same cooperation for future challenges..(sic)” he tweeted.
Although Mangaluru is considered to be a ‘communally sensitive’ area, it nonetheless witnessed peaceful elections right from the day the campiagn began, to polling on April 18, and until the day of counting on Thursday May 23. Prime Minister Narendra Modi himself addressed a rally at Nehru Maidan during the intense campaigning and despite a few sporadic attempts to disrupt peace by a handful of miscreants, the election season passed without any major disturbance in Mangaluru.
