Mangaluru: Photos of Bajrang Dal activists worshipping ‘trishulas’ on the occasion of Ayudha Pooja are circulating on social networking sites and have evoked strong reactions from many quarters.
In the meantime, Mangalore police commissioner N Shashikumar has ordered to check the legality of the rituals performed.
Reacting to reporters’ questions, the police commissioner said “Police learnt that ‘trishula dikshe’ was performed during the Ayudha Pooja held by VHP and Bajrang Dal at various places including Mangaluru. A preliminary review revealed that it was a ritual performed every year.”
He further added that the police have been instructed to check if there were any legal issues regarding the ritual.
Bajrang Dal workers had worshipped custom-made Trishulas and posed for photos holding the ‘weapons’ in their hands during Ayudha puja in parts of Mangaluru, Udupi, and Puttur.
