Cong candidate Ashok Kumar Rai lodges complaint about defamatory video threat

Mangaluru: The Congress candidate for Puttur Assembly Constituency, Ashok Kumar Rai, has filed a complaint with the Mangaluru East Police Station, alleging that he was blackmailed with the airing of a defamatory video against him.

The complaint accused Sivashankar Shetty and VJ Ajay Anchan demanded Rs 25 lakhs from Rai and threatened to air the video if the demand was not met.

According to Rai’s complaint, the accused aired a defamatory video on YouTube on April 28 when he refused to pay them money. They also threatened to broadcast more videos if the demand was not met.

The video on the YouTube channel reportedly owned by VJ Ajay Anchan, showed VJ Anchan interviewing Sivashankar Shetty, making false claims that Ashok Rai had cheated people, the complaint added.

The police have registered a case.
