Mysuru: The Congress party has expelled Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) Mayor Bhagyavathi for six years for allegedly involving in anti-party activities.
Mysuru City Congress Committee president R. Murthy said, “We have already filed an application with the office of the Regional Commissioner in Mysuru seeking her removal from the MCC,”
Bhagyavathi, had contested the polls on January 24 as a rebel candidate against Congress candidate R. Kamala. “She filed her nomination papers at the behest of JD(S) and BJP councillors and won. It was because of her action that the party’s official candidate lost,” he said.
Leader of the Opposition in MCC K C Shoukath Pasha said that both disciplinary and legal action had been initiated against Bhagyavathi.
The Congress will stage a demonstration demanding her resignation on February 27.
