Cong govt pushing Karnataka into bankruptcy with scams, diversion of funds: BJP

PTI, Jul 26, 2024, 6:42 PM IST

The BJP on Friday accused the Congress government in Karnataka of driving the state towards bankruptcy through corruption and diversion of funds for political interests. Union Minister Pralhad Joshi alleged Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s involvement in two scams, further claiming that Congress blocked BJP members from raising the issue in Parliament.

Noisy scenes erupted in the Rajya Sabha during Zero Hour as Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar rejected BJP’s notices to suspend the House’s listed business to discuss the Karnataka corruption issue. However, a BJP member was allowed to raise the matter. In the Lok Sabha, uproar ensued over remarks on declaring parts of Jharkhand and West Bengal as Union Territories and alleged scams in Karnataka.

BJP leader Joshi cited the lack of medicines, poor roads, and unaddressed damage from heavy rains in Karnataka, blaming Congress for the state’s financial distress. The BJP claims Siddaramaiah is involved in the Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA) and Karnataka Maharshi Valmiki Scheduled Tribe Development Corporation scams. The latter involves unauthorized transfers of Rs 187 crore, leading to the resignation and custody of Minister B Nagendra following a suicide note revelation.
