Cong, JD(S) candidates elected to Karnataka Upper House

Bengaluru: All three ruling Congress and JD(S) candidates in fray for the Karnataka Legislative Council elections were declared elected unopposed on Thursday.
M C Venugopal and Naseer Ahmed of the Congress and Ramesh Gowda of JD(S) were declared elected by returning officer M S Kumaraswamy without a contest as there was no other candidate in the fray.
The three seats had fallen vacant following the resignation of deputy chief minister D Parameshwara of the Congress and BJP’s K S Eshwarappa and V Somanna after they got elected to the Karnataka assembly in May.
The notification for the election was issued on September 14 and Wednesday was the last day of withdrawal of nominations. The polling and counting of votes were scheduled for October 3.
However, the results were declared as there were only three candidates for three seats.
