Mangaluru: Vidhan Parishad former chairman and Vice President of the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC), V. Sudarshan, raised pointed questions regarding the BJP’s position on the Ayodhya case, particularly focusing on the actions of R. Ashok, the leader of the opposition in the assembly.
Addressing presspersons here on Tuesday, Sudarshan questioned whether the BJP, during its governance, took decisive action on the Ayodhya case or merely “ate peanuts.” He specifically pointed to R. Ashok’s tenure as the home minister during the BJP government and questioned why the cases against the accused in the Ayodhya riots were not withdrawn at that time.
Sudarshan emphasized that a general circular has been issued for the settlement of cases related to the Ayodhya riots spanning 31 years. He dismissed any special political intention by the Congress in this matter, asserting that the court would decide on the cases.
The KPCC vice president criticized the BJP’s approach, stating that the party seems to use Ayodhya only for political gains and questioned their sincerity in addressing the issues surrounding the Ayodhya case.
Responding to former minister H. Anjaneyappa’s statement that ‘BJP’s Rama is in Ayodhya, our Rama is Siddaramaiah,’ Sudarshan clarified that Anjaneya’s statement was personal. However, he affirmed that Siddaramaiah is indeed a leader of the masses.
Shifting the focus to broader national concerns, Sudarshan spoke about the construction of the Sri Ram Mandir in Ayodhya. While expressing respect for religious sentiments, he highlighted that the country faces issues beyond Ayodhya, including crucial matters affecting people’s lives. Sudarshan criticized the central government for not addressing these concerns and expressed the belief that the people of the country are seeking change in the upcoming political landscape.
