Cong leader to hold protest againt state govt over flood relief

Bengaluru: Congress leaders led by former Chief Minister Siddaramaiah will be staging a protest on Wednesday against BJP government’s failure over handling flood situation in the state.
Terming that Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa led BJP government is not capable of getting funds granted from the centre for flood relief, state Congress leaders will be protesting in front of Vidhana Soudha against the state government.
Earlier, hitting out at the BJP government in the state and at the centre over the delay in announcing flood relief for the state the Karnataka Congress had y termed Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa led BJP government as the weakest government.
“Though it’s been 45 days since 22 districts were affected by recent floods, the Centre had not yet given even a single rupee despite a Central team visiting the affected places,” tweeted Karnataka Congress.
Stating that the central government had sent back the state’s memorandum, seeking some clarifications, the Congress has asked what was the difficulty in announcing interim relief and pointed to the largescale destruction caused by the floods that hit several districts, especially in the northern parts of the state.
As many as 103 taluks of 22 districts were affected by recent floods for which the state government has sought a relief of Rs 38,000 crore from the Centre. Around seven districts were reeling under drought.
