Mangaluru: The Muslim Central Committee, on Wednesday, has decided to urge the Congress to pitch a Muslim candidate from Dakshina Kannada parliamentary constituency in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

The decision was taken at a meeting, held at the mini hall of the town hall here and presided over by the president of Central Committee, M S Mohammed Masood. It was also decided to constitute an action committee to submit a memorandum to the Congress.

Addressing the gathering Masood said that the Congress can take a call on their request and convey their decision before November 30. In case the Congress did not declare a ticket to a Muslim candidate by next month the committee would meet again on December 15 to decide their next course of action, he said.

Further, he added that there was a need to create an awareness on the need to field a Muslim candidate from the constituency as none from the community have been fielded so far. An awareness could be created in this respect with the support of Congress, JD(S), Muslim leaders of leftist parties, heads of different Muslim sects and organizations, he said
