Bengaluru: Congress leader S. Narayanaswamy, who had splashed petrol inside BBMP office and threatened the BBMP officials, was remanded in judicial custody for 14 days after he surrendered to the police on Friday morning. On February 16, he had poured petrol on the BBMP premises after authorities declined to enlist an illegal property in his name.

A video clip of the incident was uploaded on social media which went viral and a complaint was lodged with the police.

Narayanaswamy was absconding since the incident. He surrendered before the Ramamurthynagar police on Friday. “We recorded his announcement before taking him to the Horamavu BBMP office for spot examination,” said the police. He is said to have admitted that it was an edgy measure to get a B-khata for a land under prosecution in Horamavu.

A FSL group at that point went with him to gather the bottle with petroleum that was recovered, and after all conventions, the examiner delivered him before an officer, who remanded him in legal custody. The next hearing is on March 8.

Narayanaswamy has been booked under Section 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty); 341 (punishment for wrongful restraint); 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation), and 427 (Mischief causing damage to the amount of fifty rupees) of the Indian Penal Code.
