Mangaluru: Demanding immediate completion of flyovers at Pumpwell (Mahaveer) Circle, Thokkottu and four-laning of national highways in the city, Congress workers on Monda, January 28 took out a padayatra from Talapady to Pumpwell.

The padayatra was led by district in-charge minister U T Khader, former minister B Ramanath Rai, former MLAs J R Lobo, Shakunthala Shetty and MLC K Harish Kumar.

Addressing party workers here UT Khader said that, the Dakshina Kannada MP Nalin Kumar Kateel had promised that the flyovers will be completed in December 2018, but the work is not being expedited yet. Nalin Kumar Kateel is responsible for the slow pace of national highway development in the district. It is not possible for any city to develop without having proper national highway connectivity, he added

The BJP government at the Centre has only achieved in spreading lies after lies, said former minister Shakunthala T Shetty.

Former minister Rai state that the BJP leaders are trying to mislead public with lies with regard to delay in national highway development works.

Ahead of Lok Sabha elections, this is the second padayatre the Congress has conducted in the district demanding development of national highways. Recently Dakshina Kannada District Congress Committee had held a three-day padayatra from Nelyadi demanding the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) to resume four- laning work on Mangaluru-Bengaluru NH75 stretch between Addahole to B C Road.
