Kundapur: Conmen who posed as representatives of Patanjali Ayurveda managed to dupe a Koteshwar resident of Rs 7.75 lakhs. A complaint in this regard was lodged with the Cyber, Economics and Narcotics (CEN) police station at Udupi.

The woman, Anuradha Holla (39), wife of Vasudeva Holla from Koteshwar near here wanted to start her own Ayurvedic dispensary. On August 9, 2018 Anuradha registered herself online with Patanjali after seeing an advertisement.

Later on, two persons contacted her and sought few documents as part of the registration formalities. On August 13, she was asked to remit Rs 50,000 towards registration fees, which she sent to an account in a nationalized bank at Haridwar. Subsequently, on September 1 she was asked to remit a sum of Rs 2.3 lakhs and Rs 2.5 lac towards security deposit and purchase of  Ayurveda products.

On October 15 she was asked to deposit Rs. 1.1 lakh for yoga training security deposit; then a call on October 26 for depositing Rs. 80,000 for VAT, and a call on October 30 for depositing Rs. 55,000, which she did online, claimed Anuradha.

Later, when Anuradha tried to contact them there was no response. Realising that she had been cheated by the men, Anuradha filed a case at CEN police station.
