Mangaluru: Congress MLA U T Khader requested the Dakshina Kannada district administration and state government to consider lifting the weekend curfew in the district.
Addressing presspersons Khader said, “District administration should consider lifting the weekend curfew in the district. People will host parties or functions either on Friday or Monday instead of the weekend.”
He further added, “It is better to impose night curfew strictly to avoid social gatherings during the night. We have our MLA who submitted a memorandum to the chief minister (CM) to withdraw weekend curfew when they themselves are in the task force committee.
“The MLAs want to appease and create confusion among people by submitting memorandum to CM Basavaraj Bommai.”
“The weekend curfew has been imposed in the district with only essentials open till 2 pm. Why is there no permission for other shops such as footwear and textiles? What is the logic behind the weekend curfew?” he questioned.
