Udupi: Former Karnataka chief minister Siddaramaiah on Wednesday lashed out at Prime Minister Modi for misguiding people by lying to them and making false promises.

He was speaking at the party workers’ conference organised on the occasion of valedictory of the 150th year of Gandhi Jayanti.

Terming the PM as a liar, Siddaramaiah said that the BJP, including Modi, has not carried out any developmental works in the country. However, the Constitution and democracy are in danger under their regime.

On the row over Tipu Jayanti celebrations and the most recent decision of state government to remove the erstwhile Mysuru ruler’s lessons from school history books, Siddaramaiah said it was unfortunate that the government was engaging in such things for vote bank politics.

He called out the hypocritic attitude of BJP leaders, including BS Yediyurappa and Shobha Karandlaje for terming Tipu as anti-Hindu, especially since the same leaders in the past have hailed him as a freedom-fighter.

He asked the opposition leaders to read history rather than politicizing issues for electoral gains.

“The true face of BJP leaders has been revealed from the politics they are indulging in over Tipu issue. Those who do not have knowledge of history cannot create history,” said the former chief minister.

Predicting a thumping victory for the party in the state assembly by-polls, Siddaramaiah said that the people will give a befitting reply to the BJP for their misgovernance.

Reteirating siddaramaiah’s views, KPCC president Dinesh Gundu Raosaid that the people want Congress to return to power in the state.

He blamed the government and Modi in particular for taking decisions without deliberating over them. The government has been misusing CBI, I-T or ED against anyone who opposes their decisions.

Former Ministers Vinay Kumar Sorake, Pramod Madhwaraj, former MLAs Gopal Poojary, U R Sabhapathi, State Women Congress president Pushpa Amarnath, AICC secretary Vishnunathan P C, state Congress leaders Sandeep B M, AICC secretary, Rangaswamy, Ashok Kumar Kodavoor, M A Gaphoor and others were present in the programme.
