Mangaluru: Minister for Kannada and Culture V Sunil Kumar on Monday said that a committee led by Dr. Mohan Alva has been formed to recommend the inclusion of Tulu in the Eighth schedule of the Constitution.

Taking to Twitter, the Minister said, “A committee led by Dr. Mohan Alva has been formed to undertake research and provide a report with relevant recommendations regarding the declaration of Tulu as the second official language of Karnataka.”

It was a long pending demand of the coastal districts to recognize the Tulu language which is spoken by no less than 2.5 to 3 million people in Karnataka, and include it in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution.

However, the Union Government had indicated that there is no move to include Tulu in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution at present.
