Mangaluru: South-Western Railway (SWR) officials were directed to conduct a survey for the construction of a road underbridge (RUB) to assist Mermajal residents and students studying in institutions in Valachchil and surrounding area, by MP Nalin Kumar Kateel on Saturday.
Mr. Nalin was speaking at a meeting regarding railway works related to Mysuru Division of the SWR that he chaired and said that an RUB was necessary to prevent hardship for students and residents who cross across the two railway level crossings in the area in large numbers.
The SWR officials responded and said that if the two level crossings in the area were closed, a RUB could be built near the Yashaswini Hall on the Farangipet-Mermajal Road. But, the MP pointed out that if the RUB was built near the hall, the distance to reach Mermajal would increase.
“Carry out a survey of the area and have an RUB at a location that would cause the least inconvenience to Mermajal residents. Educational institutions can be roped in to fund construction of the RUB,” directed the MP.
MP Nalin directed SWR officials to carry out the survey for widening of the bridge near Nehru Nagar in Puttur and also construction of RUB on the Puttur APMC Road. He directed the officials to also draft a new proposal for Mangaluru-Bengaluru day train service and to immediately take up pending development works of railways stations.
