Continues Heavy Rains Claim 7 Lives in Karnataka with Huge Property Damage

Bengaluru: Heavy rainfall lashed various parts of Karnataka state on Friday night and seven people reportedly lost their lives. Bengaluru, Mandya, Mysuru, Chamarajnagar, Kolar, Bidar, Kalburgi, Vijayapura, Haveri, Raichur and Hassan have witnessed heavy showers on October 13 late night.

Priest of a temple here at Kurubarahalli in Bengaluru engulfed in flood water whereas Shankarappa and Kamlamma couple lost their lives after wall of their house collapsed unexpectedly last night. Also, artificial flood water in Laggere lake canal took the lives of, Meenakshi and her daughter Pushpa in the presence of Meenakshi’s husband.

Low lying areas in Kurubarahalli-Laggere locality have been worst affected by artificial flood water last night. As many as 10 people were lost their lives following artificial flood situation in the state capital during the current monsoon season.  

A man drowned in flood water in Kalburgi whereas heavy lightning killed Lakshmana (45), a resident of Arasinaguppe in Chikkamagaluru on Friday. As many as 135 people lost their lives in the current monsoon season as heavy rains lashed their respective regions in the state.

Around 7,000 houses reportedly collapsed in the current rainy season and state revenue department has asked all deputy commissioners and tahsildars to submit reports on people who lost their houses. Revenue department has also asked the concerned authorities to take measures to repair damaged houses and provide new shelter whose houses completely destroyed in the current rainy season. Nearly 1,123 cattle have also lost their lives in the present rain season as a result of artificial floods.

Huge property damage including loss of crops reported at various parts of the state. Old buildings have turned into the victims of intensive rainfall. Exact data on property damage is yet to be collected by the state government.
