Cops bust cattle trafficking attempt at Bidkalkatte

Kundapur: In an operation conducted by the Kota police, as many as ten cows which were being illegally transported in a vehicle at Bidkalkatte in Hombady Mandady village have been seized.
During a routine checking of vehicles, the police grew suspicious of a white pick-up truck in which the cattle were being trafficked. The police intercepted the vehicle. Seeing the police, the driver of the vehicle and his accomplice made good their escape by abandoning the pick-up in the middle of the road. The cattle including two buffaloes, four calves and three cows were found in the vehicle tied to one another in an inhuman manner with ropes to their neck and rear legs.
The estimated value of the cattle found in the vehicle is Rs. 23,000 and the value of the two buffaloes in Rs.12,000. The estimated value of the Mahindra Bolero pick-up is Rs. 5 lakh.
Primary investigation has revealed that the pickup belonged to Mohammad Zabrood, a native of Honnavar and Hussain and others from Goliyangady were transporting cattle. Kota police station has registered a case in this regard.
