Mangaluru: More than half of the posts sanctioned at Mangaluru Urban Development Authority (MUDA) and the Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) have remained vacant since a few years. This has resulted has a hindrance to the effective implementation of the ‘Smart City’ project and to the service provided to the public.

Though the corporation has requested the government to fill up the vacant potst, the government has not taken it seriously. Since this problem has persisted from a few years, the existing officials are forced to bear additional work load. Dispensing of files has also reached a stalemate.

The corporation has been sanctioned a total of 1,725 posts. Of them, only 600 posts have been filled. As a result, more than a thousand posts have remained vacant. Of the many vacant posts include assistant commissioner, zonal commissioner 3, council secretary, bill collector, civil engineer, electrical engineer, revenue inspector and many other posts.

Retired posts too remain vacant!

A week before, 10 staff handling different designations retired. Now, the responsibilities of their job have been given to the remaining staff. ‘Assignment’ service staff is facing even more pressure. The specialty is that, if a post becomes vacant, the government does not make any serious thought to fill that post.

7 of the 22 posts vacant at MUDA

22 posts have been sanctioned for Mangaluru Urban Development Authority of which only 15 posts have been filled. In that too, a few have be assigned this responsibility over their responsibility for other departments. The special land acquisition officer post at the land acquisition department remains vacant. The post of manager, short hand, computer operator, group D and others also remain vacant.

Request to the government

“There are seven posts vacant at Mangaluru development department. Of these, the post of land acquisition officer should get filled urgently. This has been brought before the government and work is being done on appointment of the remaining vacant posts,” informs Shrikant Rao, Commissioner, MUDA.

More than 1000 posts lay vacant

“In Mangaluru Corporation, only one-third posts have been filled. Close to 1000 remaining posts lay vacant. This has been informed to the government. A request has been sent to the city development minister who has assured to action to fill the vacant posts,” informed Mohammed Nazeer, MCC Commissioner.
