Kasaragod: Nearly two months after the brutal murder of two youth Congress workers – Kripesh and Sarath Lal, political rivalry is once again said to have created a tense situation at Kallyot at Periye here on Sunday night.
On Sunday night at around 11.30 pm a country made bomb was reportedly hurled at the residence Deepu Krishnan, a close friend of Kripesh and Sarath Lal. Though the family members were present at the house at the time of the attack, no one was injured. The Congress suspects role of CPI(M) activists in the incident.
Meanwhile suspected Congress workers are said to have attacked the houses of CPM local committee member M Balakrishnan and CPM sympathiser A Valsaraj later around Sunday midnight.
Three police personnel – Pradeep Kumar of Bekal station, Sarath Kumar of Rajapuram police station, and Suresh Kanam of Chandera police station – who had been deployed at the residence of Valsaraj for security reasons in the wake of twin murders also suffered injuries, the police said.
Following the incident, Bekal police have deployed additional police personnel to prevent any further escalation. So far eight persons have been arrested in connection with the attacks on the houses of Balakrishnan and Valsaraj.
