Couple doused in petrol and set fire; pregnant woman dies, husband injured; investigation complete

Kasaragod: The case of a couple doused in petrol and set on fire resulting in the death of the pregnant woman and the husband sustaining severe burn injuries has come to a conclusion at Kasaragod Additional District Sessions Court (First).

The deceased has been identified as Nafisat Misriya (21), wife of Abdul Rahiman (42) from Manjil in Uppala Hidayat Nagara Kannampetti Newbadriya. Abdul Rahiman has sustained grievous burn injuries.

The accused has been identified as Misriya aka Misriya Rehman (36) daughter of Sidi Kunni, originally a resident of Kudlu Erial and presently residing at a rented quarters in Gova Tivil Mufsad.

On August 7th 2011, the couple was sleeping at their house in Uppala Hidayath Nagar, when the accused the accused doused the sleeping couple in petrol through their window and set them on fire and thus injured them seriously. Though the victims were given treatment at a hospital in Mangaluru, Nafisat Misriya succumbed to her injuries on August 15th 2011. During the time of her death, she was 7 months pregnant. In relation to this attack, Manjeshwar police registered a murder and attempt to murder case against Misriya Rehman.     

The accused Misriya Rehman was the first wife of the burns injured victim Abdul Rahiman. They have two children. Abdul Rahiman had ignored his wife Misriya Rahman and his two children. This was the reason the act was committed explained the police in the case. There were a total of 35 witnesses in this case.
