Mangaluru: Three persons accused of assault and outraging of modesty of woman were found guilty by a local court here.

The third additional district and sessions court of the city convicted Naushad, Aboobacker, and Mohammed Hanif in a case that occurred in 2016 under the limits of Beltangady police station. Justice B.B. Jakati sentenced them to two years of imprisonment and slapped a fine of Rs 2,500 each.

The court also directed the district legal services authority to provide suitable compensation to the victim.

As per the case files registered at the Belthangady police station, Naushad used to harass a woman and the husband of the victim had questioned Naushad about his behaviour.  In retaliation, Naushad, along with his father Aboobacker and brother-in-law Mohammed Hanif entered the victim’s house, assaulted her husband and outraged the modesty of the woman.

The court examined 14 witnesses and other evidence to deliver its verdict.
