The special court for elected representatives in Bengaluru has issued a summons to BJP MLA Harish Poonja and 64 others for allegedly obstructing police duties during a protest held in support of BJP Yuva Morcha Taluk President Shashiraj Shetty.
Belthangady police had registered two cases against Poonja and others. While the first case was registered for allegedly pressurizing the police to release party worker Shashiraj Shetty who was arrested for illegal quarrying, the second case was filed for staging a protest in front of the Taluk office against the FIR registered against him.
The summons were issued to 28 individuals for the protest held on May 18 while in the second case, 37 individuals have been summoned for the protest held on May 20 in front of the Administrative Building.
They are required to appear before the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate’s Court on July 10.
The Belthangadi police had submitted charge sheets in both cases to the court for public representatives. The court has now issued a summons to the accused and will begin the trial proceedings.
