Court serves warrant on Kalladka Prabhakar Bhat in Shyam Prasad Shastry death case

Puttur: Warrants have been served on Dr Kalladka Prabhakar Bhat and Bonantaya Shivashankar Bhat by the additional chief judicial magistrate’s court here in regard to the suicide by Shyam Prasad Shastry. The Court has also issued summons to Sri Raghaveshwara Bharatiteertha Swamiji of Sri Ramachandrapur Math. The warrants and summons were issued after the criminal investigation department filed the final charge sheet in the case.
The charge sheet identifies Dr Kalladka Prabhakar Bhat, Bonantaya Shivashankar Bhat, Sri Raghaveshwara Bharatiteertha Swamiji of Sri Ramachandrapur Math as accused in the case in which Shyam Prasad Shastry had turned a gun towards himself and committed suicide. The Court has asked the accused to be present for the next hearing scheduled at October 31st.
The deceased victim Shyam Prasad Shastry had killed himself at 1.30 pm on August 31, 2014. He was the brother of Diwakar Shastry, husband of Premalata Shastry, who had filed rape case against Sri Raghaveshwara Swamiji.
On the basis of complaint filed by Shyam Prasad’s wife that her husband ended his life due to pressure exerted on him on certain issues, the town police had taken up investigation. The investigation was later transferred to criminal investigation department, which filed final charge sheet in the case on September 26th 2018.
The persons named above including Sri Raghaveshwara have been accused of abetting the above suicide. The court has served summons and warrants to them based on the conclusion arrived at by criminal investigation department.
