Cousins living under same roof commit suicide

Karkala: Two youth, cousins living under the same roof killed themselves by consuming poison at Garadinagara Nivasa near Kalya in the taluk on the night of August 15th. The deceased have been identified as Preetesh (24) and his aunt’s son Naveen Poojary (28), both residents of Garadinagara Nivasa. Preetesh worked as a receptionist at a hotel in Udupi and Naveen Poojary worked in the accounts department of a factory. The motive behind the extreme step remains unknown.
Incident
On the night of August 15 also they had taken dinner together and retired to their bedroom for the night. However, some time later, both emerged out from their rooms and collapsed. Though the deceased were rushed to the hospital by their family members, it was to no avail.
It is being said that both the victims were more friends than relatives and also lived under the same roof. They used to have meals together and sleep in the same bedroom.
A search of their rooms revealed liquor bottles. There is suspicion that the victims might have mixed poison into alcohol and consumed it after dinner. Ironically, according to the information given to the police by the family members, Naveen Poojary was a teetotaler.
Karkala rural police have registered a case in this regard and are presently investigating it.
