Covid 19: DK tally surges to 1,709 with 167 new cases

Mangaluru: The tally of confirmed coronavirus cases in Dakshina Kannada surged to 1,709 with 167 new cases being reported today (July 9).

So far, 702 patients have been discharged after recovery while 977 cases are active.

The new cases reported includes 64 primary contacts of those infected earlier, 42 with ILI symptoms, 6 cases of SARI, one Bengaluru returnee and three overseas travelers, 13 during pre-surgery samples. Contact tracing is on for 38 persons.

The death of a 49-year-old man and a 62-year-old SARI patient today took the death toll to 30. This includes two deaths due to non-covid issues.

Out of the total 22,481 samples sent for testing results of 20,231 are found negative.

In Udupi, 22 new cases took tally of positive cases to 1,442.  Of the total cases, 1,206 patients have recovered and 233 cases are active. The district death toll stands at three.
