Mangaluru: Since Tuesday, March 31 #MakeUTOfKasargod #FreeKasargodFromKL has started trending. It is alleged that certain residents of the district, fed up by Kerala government’s inaction in preventing the spread of COVID-19, have started this new movement.
Various accounts and pages too have been set up on Facebook, Twitter and other social media websites demanding Union Territory status for the district.
For years, Kasargod district residents have complained of the lack of development works. Many from the district go to Mangaluru for work and study due to lack of employment opportunities and educational institutions.
The outbreak of COVID-19 supposedly exacerbated their anger and has led many to start a movement demanding Union Territory status.
