Cow theft in Hebri – Police get leads regarding the thieves, one arrested

Karkala: Following a large scale protest held at Mudrady against the failure of the police in finding out people behind large scale theft of cattle on Thursday November 29, the police intensified their hunt for the culprits and have gathered some important leads.

The police have gathered more information regarding to the theft of a number of cows from Hebri area including six milking cows from the cattle shed belonging to Dogu Poojary at Mudrady.

As per the information gathered by the police, on of the thief identified as Mohammed Arif was arrested on Wednesday from near Waranga for planning the theft. Apparently, Arif and his five accomplices had come together to intercept people moving on the road at Soorimannu in Waranga village, and rob them of their belongings. However, Karkala police circle inspector, Halamurthy Rao and Hebri station house officer, Mahabala Shetty, raided the spot and nabbed the accused. During this arrest, knife and chilli powder had been seized from his possession.

The other accused including Abdul Razak alias Daddu Razak Alangar, Muhammed Ansar Todar, Rafiq Karkala, Asif alias 3D Asif, and Umar Farooq who were on the spot during the raid escaped in a Ritz car. 

During interrogation, Arif spilled the beans on the men behind the cattle theft. He further disclosed that the five persons who escaped from the police during the current raid had stolen cows from the cattle shed of Dogu Poojary Mudrady with assistance from Suresh Poojary from Chara village.
