CPI(M), BJP workers murdered near Kannur

Kasargod: A CPI(M) activist and a RSS member were hacked to death in near Kannur on Monday , May 7th.
Babu (45), a CPI(M) worker was brutally murdered at Pallur Nalattara in the Mahe district of Puducherry union territory by armed assailants who arrived by a vehicle. Babu was a former member of local municipal council. The Mahe district is adjacent to the politically sensitive Kannur district of Kerala.
Within a few hours of Babu’s death, Shanoj (40) a BJP worker and autorickshaw driver was murdered, which is suspected to be a revenge for Babu’s murder.
Shanoj was on his way home when he was chased and attacked. He was rushed to the hospital at Kozhikhode after the attack, but sadly he could not be saved.
The reasons for the murders remain unknown. However, the murders have both the CPM and the BJP throwing allegations against each other. The parties have called for a strike in Kannur and Mahe.
The murders have triggered tension in the sensitive area of Kannu.
