Criminal case against KRIDL: DC warns

Mangaluru: The implementation of work relating to tourism in the district has fallen on the backburner due to the delay by Karnataka Rural Infrastructure development Limited (KRIDL) officials. Hence, there is a plan to initiate criminal case against the officials, warned deputy commissioner Sasikanth Senthil.
He was speaking at the progress inspection meeting presided by tourism department director B Ramu on the various tourism plans in the district and its work progress on Saturday.
Many of the tourism related works have been handed over to KRIDL for quick implementation. However, since a long time, many of the plans have are in limbo. Though inspected several times, there has been no progress. Therefore it has been planned to file a criminal case. He said.
Plans worth Rs 1.978 lakh have been taken up in the district on behalf of the tourism department. Of this, work worth Rs 1,414 lakh, Rs 202 lakh and Rs 361 lakh has been given to KRIDL, Nirmiti Kendra and Public Works Department (PWD) respectively. Rs 843 lakh has been released to the implementing agencies. B Ramu expressed displeasure ion the delay of the worjk even though the grant had been released.
Priority has been given for the creation of ‘Yatri Nivas’ in the vicinity of religious centres and for the development of basic infrastructure. The director directed for all the works to be completed quickly. If the institution does not hand over the site, cancel the plan, he said.
Cooperative society president H Ramu spoke and informed that the PWD has submitted the estimation for developing the road connecting to Sultan Battery at the cost of Rs 125 lakh. The assistant director of tourism department Udaya Kumar Shetty and officials from various other department were present for the meeting.
