Uppinangady: A crocodile was spotted near the banks of the Nethravathi River close to the new bus stand in Uppinangady on September 3, causing concern among local residents.

Fayaz U.T., a former member of the Ilanthila Gram Panchayat, noticed the large crocodile resting on a sand mound along the riverbank and captured its photo.

The sighting brought back memories of a similar incident in September 2022 when three crocodiles were seen on a sand mound in the Nethravathi River near Panjala petrol pump. Unlike the previous sighting where there were three crocodiles, this time only one was seen.

The location where the crocodile was spotted is about 500 meters from the confluence of the Nethravathi and Kumaradhara rivers, near the Shri Sahasralingeshwara-Mahakali Temple. The temple is a popular site for performing rituals and taking holy baths. The crocodile sighting near this area has alarmed the community.
