Chikkamagaluru: The state BJP, on Tuesday, warned of a stir if the state government fails to appoint a Hindu priest at the controversial cave shrine of Bababudangiri in Chikkamagaluru district within the next few days.
Speaking to reporters here BJP state general secretary and Chikkamagaluru MLA C T Ravi said that the issue would have been resolved if the state government appointed a Hindu priest alongside the Mujawar (Muslim priest).
His statement comes in the wake of state government appointing a Mujawar for the Darga in Datta Peeta.
Further, he said that the Supreme Court had, in 2014, directed the government to appoint Hindu priests as per the recommendation of the Muzrai department commissioner. The government had assured the court that it would do so after holding talks with all stakeholders. But the Congress government did not appoint the priest to appease minorities, he charged.
“The government’s move to allow the Mujawar to perform Hindu rituals at the shrine is not acceptable,” he added.
