Cultural extravaganza Alva’s Virasat-2023 kicks off in style

Moodbidiri: A vibrant celebration, displaying the attractive procession of the state’s rich cultural heritage took place to mark the beginning of Alva’s Virasat-2023 on Thursday.

Speaking at the inauguration, Governor Thawar Chand Gehlot emphasized the necessity for people who possess a mindset dedicated to the nation. He expressed appreciation for national festivals such as Alva’s Virasat, acknowledging their ability to inspire such a mindset in the youth. Gehlot praised the efforts to create a new vision for the country among the youth through events orchestrated by Virasat.

Highlighting the significance of learning in the native languages, Gehlot mentioned that even developed nations like Germany and Japan are imparting education in their mother tongues. He applauded the Alvas educational institution for providing education in Kannada and attracting students from various states, conducting cultural and folk festivals, which strengthen our national identity.

Dr. M. Mohan Alva, President of the Alvas Educational Institution, welcomed the gathering, noting the institution’s diverse experience over the past 28 years. He highlighted the rising youth potential in the country and stressed the need to guide them appropriately.

Governor Gehlot also released a postal cover of centenarian Mijaruguthu Anand Alva’s portrait.

In his address, Dr. D. Veerendra Heggade,  Dharmadhikari of Dharmasthala Kshetra, highlighted India’s growth as the fourth most powerful nation globally under Prime Minister Modi’s leadership, imprinting its mark on the world.

He commended the sacrifices and hard work of leaders like Mohan Alva, in nation-building. Virasat is a journey of knowledge, not just entertainment, enhancing culture and values among students. Alva’s efforts have shaped students to become virtuous individuals, making such opportunities a blessing for them, he said.

This year’s Virasat program also dedicated to Captain MV Pranjal, an Indian Army officer who was recently martyred in Jammu and Kashmir, acknowledging his service in safeguarding the nation, Dr Mohan Alva said. He recollected that Capt Pranjal had visited past Virasat events on numerous occasions.

The procession was a feast for the eyes, featuring over 130 art troupes, showcasing various cultural diversities of the nation. The grand Rath Yatra concluded the procession, invoking fervent devotion among the spectators.

Traditional performances like Yakshagana, Kola, and Nandi Dhwaja mesmerized the audience, showcasing the richness of our heritage. The event showcased artistic costumes and performances of diverse cultural expressions.

The Virasat-2023 cultural event commenced on Friday evening at 5:45 PM, marking the beginning of the second day’s cultural extravaganza. The festival commenced with the lighting of lamps, signifying the onset of an eventful celebration.
