Customs officials seized gold worth Rs 27.56 lakh at MIA

Bajpe: Customs officials succeeded in taking into possession unaccounted gold worth Rs 27.56 lakh at the Mangaluru International Airport in two separate cases reported from here on Wednesday January 16th.

A person from Kasaragod identified as Abubakkar Mahmud (46), who came from Dubai by Air India flight had concealed gold worth Rs 9.80 in the form of paste in his underwear. He converted the metal into paste by using chemicals.

In a separate incident, during the routine check of the SpiceJet aircraft which came from Dubai on Wednesday evening, the customs officials found gold weighing 549.130 grams, also in the form of paste, concealed in a bag left behind in the aircraft.
