Customs seize gold from passenger at Mangaluru airport

Mangaluru : The Customs department at Mangaluru International Airport on Sunday nabbed a youth for attempting to smuggle gold by concealing them in his pair of sandals.

The accused has been identified as Ahmed Tahir, a native of Kasargod.

The customs department seized 804 grams gold, worth Rs 24 Lakhs.

Tahir arrived at the airport in the Air India Express flight IX814. The customs officials intercepted him during checking as the scanner detected gold.

Sources said that he confessed that he smuggled the gold on request of another person.

A case has been registered under Customs Act and further probe is on.
