Mangaluru: The sixth additional district and sessions court on Wednesday awarded death sentence to serial killer Cyanide Mohan in the 2009 rape and murder case of a Kasargod woman. The court ordered Mohan to pay a fine of Rs 30,000.
Cyanide Mohan came in contact with the victim, a beedi roller at the Kumble bus stand in April 2009. Later, he took her to Kushalnagar on May 21, 2009, and, under the pretext of marrying her, had raped her in the hotel room. The next day, he offered her a contraceptive pill laced with cyanide and asked her to consume it. After consuming the tablet, believing it to be a contraceptive pill, the woman collapsed and died.
Mohan has so far been convicted in 18 out of the 20 cases of rape and murder against him. In the last four cases, the court had awarded death sentences, and in 13 cases, he was sentenced to life imprisonment. This is the fifth case, where he was awarded death sentence.
The court had examined 47 witnesses and marked 72 documents and 43 material objects before prononcing its verdict.
