Mangaluru: The 6th Additional District and Sessions Court in the city has held Cyanide Mohan guilty of murdering a 33 year old lady from Uppala in Kasaragod. This is the 16th case against Cyanide Mohan concerning rape and murder. The quantum of punishment will be given on Sep 25th.

Incident Synopsis

In April of 2007, Mohan got acquainted with an unmarried lady from Bekuru at Uppala bus stop. The lady was a music teacher and Mohan introduced himself as Sudhakar Acharya an employee in the forest department. Later, he gained her trust and promised to get married to her. He also visited the house of the lady and won over the trust of her guardians as well.

The lady had released a music album with the title ‘Koti Chennaya’. On May 28th 2017, she had come to Mangaluru informing her family that she had a recording scheduled here. Later, she had met Mohan at Bejai bus tand, left together with him to Bengaluru and booked a room at Saptagii Palace Lodge at Cottonpet road. There too, he booked the room in the name of Sudhakar Acharya.

Murder sketch

On the following day, Mohan convinced the girl to leave back her jewellery at the lodge and accompany him for a pooja. From there, he took the girl to Bengaluru bus stand where he informed her that there was a possibility that she would get pregnant since they had coitus last night and hence gave her some pills claiming them to be emergency contraceptives and asked her to consume the same in the washroom of the bus stand. Accordingly, the lady consumed the pills in the washroom and collapsed. Although the locals rushed her to the hospital, she was declared to be brought dead. Meanwhile, Mohan had returned back to the lodge, gathered the lady’s gold jewellery kept there and fled. He later sold the jewellery in Mangaluru.

The revelation

Since there were two more girls in the family of the deceased lady, the family did not want to lose any social respect and hence no complaint was registered regarding her going missing. They also assumed that she must have gone with her lover and are living happily. However in 2009, when Mohan was arrested and his photo was displayed on the TV, the sister of the deceased lady approached Uppara police station in Bengaluru and filed a missing complaint.

Chargesheet

In 2009, while the police were investigating the murder case of the lady, Mohan had revealed information regarding having taken a lady from Manjeshwar based on which, the gold which he had sold in Mangaluru was also recovered. Uppara Pete police station CI Lokeshwar and SI Nagaraj conducted the investigation and COD DySP Shivasharanappa Patil had submitted the chargesheet.

Case investigation

During the investigation of the case in the court, Judge Saidunnisa questioned 38 witness, examined 49 documents and held the accused guilty of his crimes. Public prosecutor Judith O M Crasta argued on behalf of the prosecution. There are altogether 20 cases booked against Mohan of which, 16 cases have been completed and he has been punished in all of them.

Proved allegations

In this case, the charges against Mohan were murder under IPC 302, providing poison under sec 328, robbery of gold under sec 392, poisoning under sec 394, cheating by promising marriage under sec 417 and destruction of evidence under sec 207 have been proved.
