Cyclone warning sounded along Karavali

Mangaluru/Udupi: Light rain and drizzling has been reported from some areas along the coast including Siddapur, Killur, Halady, Belman, Subrahmanya and other areas yet, most of the  regions within the twin-districts remained dry with cloudy weather. However, the sea has turned tumultuous at various places along the coast.

The meteorological department has informed that the depression that has been created in the Arabian Sea will transform into cyclone within 36 hours and hence, the department has sounded a warning for a possible cyclone. The cyclone is expected to result in gusty winds with heavy rains in Lakshadweep, Kerala, Karnataka, Gujarat and Maharashtra.

Karavali has been experiencing strong wind along the the seaside which is expected to gain momentum during the coming days. The winds are expected to gain a velocity of 40 to 55 km on Monday and reach 55 to 65 km on Tuesday. The wind speeds may even increase to 90-100km/hr along the coast of Karnataka as the cyclone makes its way to Gujarat, explained the department.

Beaches closed

In the backdrop of the cyclone warning and the sea turning violent, tourists have been barred from entering beaches in and around Mangaluru.
