A Yellow alert has been issued for October 17 for several districts in Karnataka including Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, and Uttara Kannada districts in Coastal Karnataka, as well as Chikkamagaluru, Hassan, and Kodagu.
In a weather update, IMD said that a cyclonic circulation has been identified over the Lakshadweep area and the adjoining southeast Arabian Sea, extending up to 3.1 kilometers above mean sea level. This meteorological phenomenon is anticipated to influence the weather pattern in the region.
A yellow alert signifies an anticipated heavy rainfall ranging between 64.5 to 115.5 millimeters. IMD warned that heavy rain is expected to be accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning.
IMD said that as a consequence of this system, a low-pressure area is expected to form over the southeast and adjoining east-central Arabian Sea by October 17. The cyclonic circulation will likely intensify in the subsequent 48 hours and is projected to move west-northwestward.
In response to the weather update, it is informed that New Mangalore Port Authority (NMPA) will stop all port operations and all vessels will be sailed out well in advance in case of approaching depression /storm as per Ports SOP.
